<p>William Mansfield Cooper was first an accountant and then, having won a scholarship to study at Ruskin College in the 1930s, he graduated from Manchester University in Law and was called to the bar. He returned to Manchester as a lecturer in 1938 and by his retirement had been made Vice-Chancellor of the institution.</p> <p>Bibliographical footnotes.</p>
