Orson Welles directed, produced and wrote this period drama in the wake of 'Citizen Kane'. Eugene Morgan (Joseph Cotten) wishes to marry Isabel Amberson (Dolores Costello), but she refuses him in favour of the wealthy Wilbur Minafur. Years later Eugene returns, now himself a success through his invention of an automobile. When Wilbur dies, Eugene attempts to rekindle his romance with Isabel, but her spoilt son George (Tim Holt) interferes.
