The barristers part 3 of 4/ [videorecording] :
directed by Duncan Staff; presented by Jack Davenport.
- [UK] : Open University/BBC, 2008.
- 1 videodisc (DVD) (60 min.) ; 12 cm.
Recorded off-air from BBC2 on 28 November 2008. Please note that there is no part 4 recorded; however each episode is self-contained.
Advocates are no longer dependent on the state - the Crown Prosecution Service employs its own barristers. Thus there is less work and less money for the self-employed briefs. This episode asks whether standards have declined or justice is at risk as a result. We see one independent barrister and one CPS barrister both fight their cases successfully. We also see a black female law graduate apply for a scholarship overseas as a route to getting a pupillage, and an Asian female law graduate, who is working in a legal charity, apply to get a pupillage.
