The extended version of Francis Ford Coppola's Vietnam war epic, featuring restored scenes cut from the original release. The film is based on Joseph Conrad's novel Heart of darkness and Michael Herr's non-fiction book Despatches. A US special forces captain is despatched to bring in a renegade colonel who is fighting a ruthless secret war in the jungle. The war is depicted as a tragedy for America; in Coppola's vision, the millions of Vietnamese killed by Americans are little more than scenery.
Certificate 15.
