<p>Born in 1891, Arthur Creech Jones is a former Governor of Ruskin College, Transport and General Workers' Union official and a Labour MP in the 1945-50 government. Originially Creech Jones worked for the Civil Service but was imprisoned for being a conscientious objector during the first world war. Unable to work again in the civil service, he became involved with trade unionism instead, which led to his political career. He died in 1964.</p>
