The benefits of reflexivity and its practice in social science research has become largely accepted amongst social researchers, however at present little guidance is given as to the actual practice of 'doing' reflexivity. This book draws together methodological, theoretical and philosophical discussions of reflexivity in the social sciences, and interrogates reflexivity as a tool and practice of researchers in the contemporary public engagement and impact context which social researchers and academics are required to negotiate. It explores historical debates on reflexivity and situates these within the practice of various social science methods. The volume examines ethical and moral questions and dilemmas around our relationships with the researched, how they shape the direction of research, the (co-)construction of knowledge, and the identity/ies of the social researcher. |
